Hostel Detroit works to educate travelers about the past, present, and future of the city of Detroit. We seek to create experiential connections between Detroiters and visitors to foster creativity and global understanding of an often misunderstood city. We provide clean, safe and centrally located low-cost lodging, free tours and connection to the city we call home. We are here to make connections for the curious, provide insight for the studious and adventure for the traveler.
All of our staff are trained in every aspect of operating the day to day operations at the hostel. When employees are working their shift, they will be acting as “the hostel”. General duties will include but are not limited to:
- Self directing and prioritizing daily tasks required for hostel operation
- Being an information resource on the city for travelers to Detroit (ie- talking to guests about history and everything the city has to offer!)
- Manage incoming bookings, guest arrivals and departures
- Cleaning/ flipping common areas, guest rooms and bathrooms
- Laundry (i.e.- prioritizing needed laundry, loading washing machines, dryers and folding linens and towels)
- Ensure a safe and clean environment for all guests
- Executing hostel programing (movie nights, backyard bonfires etc)
- Collecting social media content
- Lift and carry 20+ pounds
- Answer phone calls as needed
