Our friends at Playground Detroit put together this pretty awesome preview of what Detroit has to offer on New Years Eve 2016. We still have plenty of space for you to come on down to the city and get your groove on like a local. Come stay at Hostel Detroit and don’t worry about driving home.
All of the events feature Detroit artists and are sure to be a good time. If you haven’t done Detroit for New Years Eve yet– you are missing out. This year has some really unique ways to experience Detroit on NYE. You can dance till 8am with Detroit techno hero Juan Atkins, ring in the new year with up and coming indie group Flint Eastwood at Haute to Death or hang out with Detroit party veterans Nothing Elegant at Eastern Market. Don’t let anyone tell you Detroit is dead on NYE.
Our favorite from the roundup:
Tires + Minimal Detroit. Juan Atkins
Address: 6541 East Lafayette Street, Detroit, MI 48207
11p-8a, Price: Medium ($15.00)* goes All-night long
Get your engines running because tires and Minimal Detroit has put Metroplex Records’ Juan Atkins up to the task of revving up the night on New Year’s Eve to celebrate their 30th anniversary. The set list includes many other heavy hitters guaranteed to have your body moving at full throttle. Catch acts Population One, Minx, Tech Beat, Plural, True Smoke, John Collins of Underground Resistance, Mizz Chavez and Salar Ansari putting the techno and electro tracks on overdrive. And of course the man behind this genre of music himself! This newer venue never fails to disappoint, and has been a buzzing and growing hub of creativity and collaboration throughout 2015.
In fact, the folks over at tires are so legit, they’ll be offering free champagne to the first 100 people to enter! (Just when you thought season of giving was over.) If you can’t make it at 11, then feel free to stop by after you’re done doing everything else because as far as we can tell this is the latest lasting party in the city– going until a whopping 8AM! Let the beat drive you into the New Year, and come see what tires is all about.
What to expect: Lots of sweat, party all-night long, and a beautiful Detroit sunrise.
Sounds like: Classic Detroit techno/electronic, best sound system in the underground galaxy
